Judith Clancy has lived in Kyoto since 1970. She studied the tea ceremony at Urasenke School of Tea and flower arrangement with Tamura Suiko of the Ohara School of Ikebana. Her first book, Naturescapes, is about Tamura’s arrangements. Other books are Exploring Kyoto, Kyoto Machiya Restaurant Guide, Kyoto: City of Zen, Kyoto Gardens—Masterworks of the Japanese Gardner’s Art, and The Alluring World of Maiko and Geiko. In 2012, she was named ‘Visit Kyoto’ Ambassador. She lives in a 120-year-old converted weaving studio in Nishijin, the weaving and dyeing district of Kyoto, where she continues to write, interpret and guide.
